The Partnership with Flybuy Enhances Operational Efficiency, Customer Satisfaction, and Eco-Friendly Initiatives.

Hannaford Supermarkets today announced a new partnership with Flybuy, the industry-leading location technology platform, to support the grocery retailer’s ‘Hannaford To Go’ pickup service. This innovative technology will increase convenience for customers by providing them with a completely seamless and efficient pickup experience, while simultaneously maximizing productivity for Hannaford stores.

In April, Hannaford launched the Flybuy platform in nearly all of its 186 stores throughout the northeastern U.S. Via the platform, ‘Hannaford To Go’ pickup customers are notified via text message when their order is ready and can click on the provided link to let the store know when they are on their way to pick up the order, as well as when they have arrived at the store. Customers also receive customized pickup instructions specific to each Hannaford store.

Simultaneously, ‘Hannaford To Go’ associates are notified when a customer is en route, nearby, and has arrived at the store. These real-time notifications give associates valuable time to finalize the order and deliver it to the customer immediately upon arrival.

“We are excited to partner with Flybuy and provide our Hannaford To Go customers with an even more efficient, convenient, and personalized pickup experience.

This new feature is in line with our overall strategy to enhance convenience for customers while continuing to deliver the high-quality, fresh items and dependable value synonymous with the brand.”

Flybuy leverages location data to streamline the pickup process, reduce wait times, and enhance the overall customer experience. This innovative solution not only improves the customer experience, but also increases efficiency and productivity for Hannaford.

“We are thrilled to launch Flybuy with Hannaford Supermarkets and provide an easy, quick, and personalized pickup solution.

Our technology has worldwide brand roll-outs in over 50 countries and more than 30,000 locations, and each brand pushes us to be more innovative and break new barriers every day. As a Massachusetts native, I am very familiar with Hannaford Supermarkets and am proud that they are joining the Flybuy family.”

In addition to maximizing labor efficiency and driving repeat visits, Flybuy helps businesses establish an eco-friendly off-premise program that reduces their carbon footprint. The Flybuy Sustainability Program has helped grocers, retailers, and restaurants eliminate 54 tons of CO2 emissions annually by reducing carbon emissions and food waste.

This effort aligns with Hannaford’s sustainability leadership. In 2021, Hannaford announced that each of its stores donates or diverts all food at risk of going to waste, therefore sending no food waste to landfills. The accomplishment made Hannaford the first large-scale grocery retailer across its market area to meet the goal. Additionally, in 2022, Hannaford announced its commitment to have all stores be powered by renewable energy by 2024, making the retailer the first large-scale supermarket business to present such an aggressive timetable for this goal.

Hannaford first launched ‘Hannaford To Go’ in 2011. ‘Hannaford To Go’ welcomes customers to shop online and order any item sold at the store, including fresh groceries, household essentials, and grab-and-go meal options. Hannaford associates carefully select and assemble the order and have it ready for pickup at the store or delivery to a customer’s home or business on the selected date and time.
