Joann has teamed up with Radius Networks to launch a location-based curbside pickup and BOPIS solution, Flybuy, the company announced last week. The technology allows the retailer to have an ETA on the time a customer is going to pick up an order, prioritize order fulfillment based on those arrival times, meet customers with their delivery orders and deliver orders without contact, according to the company press release. Since introducing the technology, the retailer found that some customers waited less than a minute for their orders, and more than 80% of all customers across the country waited less than three minutes.

A specialty crafts and fabrics retailer has added mobile location capability to its omnichannel pickup service. The number of shops using technology similar to that of Radius Networks, to speed up curbside fulfillment is likely to grow rapidly. Curbside pickup is cheaper for customers than delivery but offers similar savings in time and a reduction of health risks.

Newk’s can observe how close a customer is to the restaurant and keep employees from constantly looking out the window to see if a guest is approaching. The service alerts staff when they’re a mile out, .1 miles out. “It’s kind of our answer to the drive thru,” Clock says. Newk’s has only three pickup windows and two full drive thrus.
